Attic Insulation

The first step toward saving money on energy is to insulate your attic. AccordingThe US Dept of Energy's "EERE Consumer Guide" - attic insulation is one of the best ways to make your home comfortable and efficient. And, attic insulation is also one of the most economical ways things you can do to start saving money and energy. You will see an immediate benefit!

How much attic insulation does your home have?

In Michigan, the recommended insulation level for an attic is R-49.  A typical attic in an older home, with approximately two inches of fiberglass batt (R-Value of 2.2/in), has an R-Value of only around 5 — not nearly enough for a cold Michigan winter! Ace & Sons will be happy to inspect your attic and see if you have the recommended amount of insulation.

Ace & Sons uses Energy Control brand blown cellulose insulation with an R-Value of 3.8 per inch — nearly 1.5 times better than fiberglass!  The same attic with 12.5 inches of cellulose insulation would keep your family comfortably warm in the winter and cool in the summer. (The R-Value of cellulose is its pre-settled value. This means that even as the cellulose settles over time, the R-Value is still guaranteed.)

The Ace and Sons Installation Process:

Step 1

Ace and Sons installs baffles prior to insulating, preventing the cellulose from blocking your home's soffits. This ensures proper attic ventilation, preventing shingle damage from trapped heat in the summer and damaging ice dams in the winter.

Step 2

After preparing your attic's ventilation, Ace & Sons begins blowing in the highest R-Value cellulose insulation available. Installers make sure to fill every energy-robbing gap and hole.

Step 3

Ace and Sons doesn't stop there.  If you have floorboards in your attic, insulation is blown underneath them. Afterward they are cleaned up for reuse.

Step 4

A final layer is then added to reach Michigan attic specifications, achieving an optimal R-Value of 49.  Note: Insulation is built up well over the top of the joists.
